Would you like to add a custom miniature to your wargaming army or role-playing game? This article will show you how to sculpt your own dungeons and dragons miniatures using a polymer modeling clay like sculpey or fimo.
Sculpting Tools
We’re going to make a basic fantasy monster, so we won’t need the more advanced miniature sculpting tools - we’re going to use a regular X-acto Knife and our hands to do our sculpting. We’ll also need some regular paperclips to make our wire armature with. You might also find it useful to have a pair of small crafting pliars. To finish our miniature we’ll use some paints, flock, and sealer. Continue reading Sculpting Miniatures for D&D with Polymer Clay

One of the hidden gems in the old Dungeon Master’s Guide for the original AD&D was “Appendix N” - Gary Gygax’s own list of recommended books that he felt were an inspiration in the creation of the original Dungeons & Dragons game.
I remember looking over the list back in the early 80s and not paying it much attention (I was more interested in playing the RPG!), but now that I’m older I think this might be a good list of books to get around to reading over the next year (aside from the ones I’ve already read!) Being able to search for authors and titles on Amazon.com means I can also order some of the books that I haven’t had any luck finding in my local bookstores over the years. I’ve been a fan of Axis & Allies for ages, but I wasn’t aware of these products.
Here are some of the expansions I was able to find, and how they indicate their compatibility with the official Axis & Allies game. It’s interesting to note that most not only say they’re compatible with Axis & Allies, but also include a disclaimer that the use of the trademark is not approved. I wasn’t able to find anything that suggests Milton Bradley or Hasbro tried to block the sale of these products over the years. Continue reading Axis & Allies Expansions

Drawstring dice bags are nearly ubiquitous amongst people who play with polyhedral dice. They can even be used as hand bags. But what about the inverse– a bag that looks like one of the dice? Continue reading DIY d12 Bag

I’ve been reading through (and formatting) the material in the Traveller Developer’s Pack released by Mongoose Publishing. It’s really good stuff, and I think it’s fantastic that they’ve made this available to 3rd party publishers.
In the spirit of making fun scifi game material available for free, here’s a Star Hex Map for you to download and use in your games. I think it would be handy for Traveller, Battletech, Star Frontiers or other space themed games.
