Best Place to Buy Heroclix

6 April 2009 2 Comments

My local gaming store didn’t have much in the way of Heroclix, so I went into Toronto on the weekend and stopped by the Silver Snail. It’s a rather nice and well stocked comic and games store on Queen west. They had a much better selection of Heroclix starter sets and booster packs, and I picked up an Arkam Assylum booster pack. The quality of the minis was a lot higher than what I was expecting (I thought they’d be about equal to the Heroscape figures) and while more than $2 each, it was still a fully painted mini I didn’t have to mess around with painting. (I like painting… I just don’t have the time right now)

Confirming that they’re good quality miniatures I started looking around online to see if I could get a better deal. I’m not actually planning on using the figs for Heroclix games anyway – they’re for other superhero mini games, like Savage Worlds, so the point values and rareness of the figures doesn’t matter all that much to me. I ended up bidding on some E-Bay auctions for the Justice League characters, as well as some miscellaneous DC heros and villains. Amazon.com has some great deals on the starter sets and booster packs, but I’m not keen all that keen on the randomness associated with the boosters. Hopefully I’ll be able to find some more non-random sets on Amazon or E-bay.

When I was younger almost all the comics I read were Marvel, but for whatever reason I find myself much more interested in the DC based heroes now. There’s something about having minis for all the characters from the Superfriends that I think is really awesome. Last night I found out they have a G’nort figure. That’s one I’m going to *have* to track down. :)

I’m surprised you couldn’t find them locally – there is quite a Heroclix following in town. They still (apparently) play on alternate Sundays. I know some folks too who may be looking to cash out.

I called the local game store and they didn’t have any starter sets (which let you see the minis) and only a couple of booster packs.

I’m not really looking to get into playing Heroclix in tournaments or anything – but if you know of anyone who wants to get rid of their figures, let me know! :)
